Westfield HS Arts on the Lawn 2024

A well-rounded individual exercises both their intellectual and artistic sides. In Westfield, we encourage this in our children as well as the adults of our community. One way to cultivate the artistic part of each of us is by attending the Westfield HS Arts on the Lawn 2024.

  • What: Westfield HS Arts on the Lawn 2024
  • Where: Westfield High School
  • When: Saturday, May 18th from 11 am to 3 pm

Make sure you bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs to listen in comfort. In addition to the music, various artwork created by our local high school students will also be on display. Plus, get a free swing dance lesson while there. As if that weren’t enough, how about a chance to win a great prize in the 50/50 raffle? You’re going to need to keep your strength up. Fortunately, several food trucks will be on-site to provide the sustenance needed to keep you going throughout the afternoon.

Organizers plan on hosting Arts on the Lawn on (you guessed it) the lawn outside of Westfield High School. While the weather may be cloudy, no rain is expected. However, in case of rainfall, the festivities move inside the school. But it will take place on Saturday no matter what.

Westfield Memorial Day Parade

Don’t forget. Westfield holds its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27th. It begins at 10 am with a remembrance ceremony at the Plaza and ends at Mindowaskin Park. Bring a chair and set out early to claim your spot along the parade route.

Taste of Cranford

Finally, just a reminder. The Taste of Cranford event takes place on Tuesday, May 28th. You may purchase your bracelet here for entry to the event. Proceeds from bracelet sales benefit Cranford High’s 2024 Project Graduation. Get your bracelet today.

Westfield Spring Fling 2024

So far, we’ve had a pretty wet spring. But that won’t deter this year’s celebration: Westfield Spring Fling 2024. Organizers plan on holding this event come rain or shine.

  • What: Westfield Spring Fling 2024
  • Where: Downtown Westfield
  • When: Sunday, May 5th, 10 am to 5  pm
  • Admission: FREE

Westfield Spring Fling 2024

This year’s Spring Fling happens this Sunday, May 5th. According to the weatherman, it looks like we may experience a damp Sunday. So, make sure that you check the weather report before you leave home. You might need to add a jacket and umbrella to your ensemble to stay dry. But it still sounds like a lot of fun.

Live entertainment for the day includes Big Horse Band and Monkey Wrench. They perform on the Quimby Street stage in the afternoon. Dozens of local vendors line the streets all day long selling clothing, accessories, jewelry, artwork, leather goods, and more.

You definitely won’t want to skip on the food vendors either. Between Cousins Maine Lobster, The Empanada Truck, and The Big Bad Cookie Company are only a few of the more than 20 food vendors keeping folks fed at the festival. Fortunately, organizers added tables and chairs to make eating a bit easier this year.

Also, this year’s event includes dinosaurs. While not life-size, per se, the animatronics and puppetry used to operate these prehistoric beasts make them incredibly life-like. Don’t be surprised if you see a velociraptor or mini-T-Rex saunter up and say “hi” while you wander around the downtown area. Fortunately, though, these dinosaurs do not bite. So, you’re safe.

Westfield Girls’ Night Out

It’s not too late to sign up for Westfield’s Girls’ Night Out 2024. Admission costs nothing. But you still need to register to participate. It takes place this upcoming Thursday, May 9th from 5 pm to 9 pm. Several downtown businesses offer special promos, discounts, and possibly a glass of champagne or two for all shoppers during this time. This year’s theme? The ’80s. Peg your jeans. Pull on the lace gloves. Grab the Aqua Net and teasing combs, ladies. Like, oh my god. This Thursday, Downtown Westfield is going to be totally tubular to the max.

I am grateful to all who entrusted me with your life-changing real estate moves and to all who referred me to your family and friends!

Westfield Girls’ Night Out 2024

I realize that we have had a pretty soggy spring so far here in the Northeast. But it looks like sunny skies ahead. In fact, the weatherman predicts temps briefly kissing 80F by the end of this weekend. Sounds like good shopping weather to me. Thankfully, Westfield Girls’ Night Out 2024 is just around the corner.

  • What: Westfield Girls’ Night Out 2024
  • Where: Downtown Westfield
  • When: Thursday, May 9th, 5 pm to 9 pm
  • Admission: FREE

Westfield Girls’ Night Out 2024

So many amazing locally-owned boutiques and galleries dot the downtown Westfield landscape. Girls’ Night Out allows the ladies to peruse what these shops have to offer. Pick up something for a friend, a family member, or even a co-worker. Mother’s Day takes place on May 12th this year. Take this opportunity to shop for your mom, your mother-in-law, your grandma, or any other “mom” in your life. With the great deals offered only on Girls’ Night Out, you should pick up a little something for yourself as well.

It costs nothing to participate in Girls’ Night Out. However, you do need to register ahead of time. Each store offers its own discounts, special promotions, and a treat or two. Take a selfie with your friends and family in one of the photo booths along the way. Make sure you pop your colors, grab the neon lace gloves, peg those jeans, and spray your hair to high heaven. Why? Because it’s 80’s night, ladies.  Feel free to dress in your 80’s best and enjoy yourself. You deserve it!

Scotch Plains Freecycle Market 2024

Flowers bloom. Birds sing. Spring is definitely in the air. If the weather holds out, we should see some sun finally break through those clouds. Perfect timing to celebrate Earth Day. How should you celebrate Earth Day? How about attending the Scotch Plains Freecycle Market 2024?

  • What: Scotch Plains Freecycle Market 2024
  • Where: Jerseyland Park (2373 Beryllium)
  • When: From 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, April 20th
  • Contact: Scotch Plains Dept of Recreation (908-322-6700 x223) or via email

Scotch Plains Freecycle Market 2024

Kick spring cleaning into gear. Instead of dumping your unwanted items in the trash, give them new life at the Freecycle Market. Of course, if those items are no longer usable, they definitely need to go into the trash. But if you do not use them or need them anymore, let someone else have them.

Schedule a donation drop-off time online at the Community Pass website here. You will need to set up a free account to access it. Then, choose a drop-off time (8:30 am to 9 am, 9 am to 9:30 am, and 9:30 am to 10 am). After you drop off your donation, come back for some free shopping from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Test that theory out by going to the Scotch Plains Freecycle Market on April 20th. In case of rain, organizers plan on holding the event on Sunday, April 21st.

Items Accepted

  • Children’s toys
  • DVDs/video games
  • Games and puzzles
  • Kitchenware
  • Seasonal decorations
  • Small appliances
  • Sports equipment

Items That are Not Accepted

  • Bikes
  • Books
  • Clothing (including shoes)
  • Electronics
  • Glass of any kind

Pass It Over in Cranford

This year, the first day of Passover starts on Monday, April 22nd. That happens to also be Earth Day. If you happen to be in Cranford on Sunday, April 21st, bring canned or boxed goods to Eastman Clock Plaza. Every donation equals an entry in a drawing for a $180 Perrotti’s gift card. All donations benefit Jewish Family Services and our local community.

I am grateful to all who entrusted me with your life-changing real estate moves and to all who referred me to your family and friends!

Westfield Memorial Library Book Sale 2024

Walt Disney once said, “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” When you instill a love of reading in a child, it sparks the imagination and encourages a love of learning. Help create a bookworm in your family by attending the 2024 Westfield Memorial Library Book Sale.

Westfield Memorial Library Book Sale 2024

For almost 50 years now, the Friends of Westfield Memorial Library put together this spring book sale. This year’s event takes place from April 25th to April 28th. Last year’s event brought in more than 25,000 books from all genres. This year, they expect even more. In addition, patrons may find CDs, DVDs, and audio books available for sale as well. All proceeds from the sales of these books fund programs provided by the Friends to the local community.

April 25th and 26th provide special discounts for teachers from 10 am to 8 pm on Thursday and 10 am to 4 pm on Friday. On April 27th, purchase books at half price from 10 am to 4 pm. And on the final day (April 28th), pay $10 for a bag and fill it up with as many books as you can put inside of it from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Donation Dates

An event like this cannot happen without donations from generous members of our community. So, please go through your bookshelves at home. Weed out the books you want someone else to discover. Or make room for new ones. Bring any books, CDs, DVDs, or audio books to the library on April 17th (10 am to 3 pm), April 18th (10 am to 3 pm), April 19th (10 am to 12 pm) or April 20th (10 am to 1 pm). The library set up special drop boxes for all of these donations in the parking lot. Make sure they are in good condition. Feel free to bring your damaged books to the recycling center. No textbooks, VHS tapes, magazines, or encyclopedias will be accepted. Thank you.
