This 4th of July marks our nation’s 250th birthday. But you need not wait until then to celerate. Scotch Plains Revolution 250 takes place the weekend before.

Scotch Plains Revolution 250

The festivities begin on Friday, June 26th at 4:30 pm with the opening ceremony at Scotch Plains Baptist Church. The opening ceremony includes a special tribute to some of Scotch Plains’ own part in the battle for our independence. Officials will lay wreaths at the church to honor those who fought in the past. Did you know that the Battle of Short Hills partially took place in what is now known as Scotch Plains?

After the opening ceremony, a parade filled with representations of historical characters winds its way from the church to Scotch Plains Town Hall. At that point, they plan on opening up a time capsule that was sealed back in 1984 during the town’s 300th birthday celebration. After that, the party continues at the Alan M Augustine Village Green with food vendors and family-friendly fun.

On Saturday, June 27th, come to Shady Rest Country Club. Beginning at 5 pm, guests enjoy food from several food trucks on-site and live musical accompaniment. Then, as night falls, look up into the sky to watch some beautiful pyrotechnics.  Organizers recommend that you bring lawn chairs from home so you can watch in comfort. No seating will be made available at the facility.
