Summer weather gives us plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. Volleyball. Tennis. Baseball. Shopping. Wait. Shopping? Yes, even the stores take advantage of beautiful weather with the Downtown Westfield Sidewalk Sale.
This Thursday through Sunday, shops in the downtown area offer amazing deals on their stock. Use this opportunity to shop at your favorite local boutiques. Or take this time to visit someplace new. Many stores plan on offering unique promotions as well. Plus, it can be a fun way to spend the afternoon with your family and/or friends.
Not to be outdone, but Cranford also hosts a sidewalk sale event. But theirs takes place next week. From July 17th to the 20th, Craford’s stores in the downtown area also offer special deals and promotions. This event allows you to support local businesses and provides a fun time with your friends as well.
If you happen to attend the Westfield Sidewalk Sale this Thursday (July 10th), you will not hear melodies wafting through the air. Why? Sweet Sounds Downtown Westfield takes a break from the music on the 10th. In its place, the Buddha Bash wellness event takes over Quimby Street for the evening. Sweet Sounds picks up its regularly scheduled musical concerts the following Tuesday and Thursday.
On the other hand, if you happen to be in Cranford on the 10th, you may want to stop by the Eastman Clock Plaza for Summer Sounds Downtown Cranford 2025. It takes place every Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm. This week, Mama D and the Vexations perform live.
I am grateful to all who entrusted me with your life-changing real estate moves and to all who referred me to your family and friends!

Summertime means more time outdoors. And if you end up outdoors on a Tuesday or Thursday evening, you might as well head over to the Sweet Sounds Downtown Westfield 2025.
Every summer, Sweet Sounds fills the downtown Westfield area with live music. In the past, it only took place one day a week. However, this year, organizers mixed things up. They now offer two separate nights to choose from: Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesday’s concerts take place on two different stages: Quimby Street and Foundation Park. Thursday’s concert can only be found on Quimby Street. The Quimby Street concerts run from 6 pm to 9 pm while Foundation Park’s concerts last from 7 pm to 9 pm.
There will be no seating provided. So, if you want to watch in comfort, feel free to bring a lawn chair from home. To find out who’s playing and when, please visit Downtown Westfield’s website here.
The Westfield Public Arts Commission is looking for local artists to create a beautiful mural at 28 Prospect Street. They chose an “enchanted garden” theme for inspiration. A 24’x20′ wall provides the canvas on which to create this magical piece of art. The commission will be accepting all proposals between now and July 10th. If you wish to be considered, please email your name, contact info, a design mock-up, and a brief description of the work in question as well as compensation requests to publicart@westfieldnj.gov. Good luck.
Westfield isn’t the only city offering live music this summer. Cranford’s Summer Sounds Downtown series takes place every Thursday in Eastman Clock Plaza from 6 pm to 8 pm. It also lasts through August 28th.

Technically, Juneteenth falls on June 19th. It’s the date we celebrate the time that Major General Gordon Granger enforced the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the Civil War (in 1865). While Juneteenth itself has been celebrated since the first anniversary of the enforcement, it did not become a legally recognized federal holiday until June 2021. This year, the Scotch Plains’ Juneteenth Celebration takes place on Saturday, June 14th.
If you wish to participate in the celebration, visit Shady Rest Golf & Country Club starting at noon on June 14th. Festivities include live entertainment, a DJ, food trucks, vendors, a marketplace, and activities for both kids and families. If Mother Nature decides not to cooperate, the event moves to the following Saturday (June 21st).
Social Justice Matters is a local non-profit. They provide education about social justice to the community as well as communicate to local government, law enforcement, and community organizations to help them them learn how to navigate a more diverse population. They also work with the local YMCA and other programs to teach the youth of our community about diversity.
Summer Sounds Downtown started yesterday with Lynette Sheard kicking off the season. If you wish to see a new, talented, local act perform, visit the Eastman Clock Plaza on any Thursday through August 28th. Concerts take place between 6 pm and 8 pm. Bring a lawn chair for home so you can relax and listen in comfort.

As you know, this weekend is Memorial Day weekend. How will you be spending it? BBQ with friends and family? Going to a parade? Stopping for a moment to acknowledge the sacrifice of the brave men and women who fought for our country in the past? How about doing all three? The Westfield Memorial Day 2025 celebration starts out with a solemn ceremony at Memorial Plaza. Then, a parade heads out to Mindowaskin Park for food and entertainment. After that, the American Legion Hall hosts a picnic with even more food and entertainment. If you plan on being in town for Memorial Day, come celebrate with the community.

This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 23rd. On this day, we officially honor those brave men and women who lost their lives fighting in service of our country. If you happen to be in the neighborhood that day, you can join in the Westfield Memorial Day 2025 Celebration with a parade and more.
Our local American Legion hosts its annual Memorial Day celebration with a solemn ceremony in Memorial Plaza. At the ceremony, they perform a presentation of colors, recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and follow that up with performances of both the National Anthem and America the Beautiful. After an opening prayer and guest remarks, there will be a presentation of wreaths, a musket salute, the playing of Taps, and a closing prayer.
Beginning at 10:45 am, the official Memorial Day parade heads out on E Broad St to Euclid and ends at Mindowaskin Park. From 11:30 am to 1 pm, guests are welcome to a community gathering which includes both food and entertainment. Finally, from 2 pm to 5 pm, there will be live music, more entertainment, and a picnic held at the American Legion Hall located at 1003 North Ave.
This Memorial Day celebration takes place come rain or shine. So, make sure you check the weather forecast before you venture out. Dress appropriately.

Almost 11% of all New Jersey residents experience food insecurity. That includes children. You can help alleviate some of this burden by joining in with the Stamp Out Hunger Westfield 2025 campaign.
How can you help Stamp Out Hunger? Well, gather up non-perishable food items (soup, vegetables, fruit, pasta, sauces, peanut butter, mac and cheese, etc.). Some pet food may also be acceptable. Any pet food collected will be distributed to local animal shelters. Please do not donate frozen items, homemade food, expired food, or anything in a glass container. Place them in a bag and put the bag out next to your mailbox on the morning of Saturday, May 10th. Then, when the US Postal Service comes by to drop off your mail, they’ll pick up the bag of food and take it with them. All food collected from this drive gets redistributed back into the community’s food pantries.
Once you place your donation by your mailbox, head out to the Tour of Notable Westfield Homes. This self-guided tour includes five distinctive Westfield homes for your viewing pleasure. At each home, guests are treated to live music, refreshments, and a chance to win a fun door prize. Tickets cost $50 if purchased in advance at Baron’s Drug Store (243 E Broad St) or $55 on the day of the event. All proceeds benefit the New Jersey Festival Orchestra.
